A stay just for you
Cockpit Cottage is a particularly quaint 3-bedroomed property in the lower village of Robin Hood's Bay offering flexible accommodation for 4 people. This popular property benefits from a very spacious patio and garden which is very much a rarity in the old village. Perched above the bustling thoroughfare, it captures the morning and mid-day sun and perfectly lends itself to a peaceful al fresco breakfast or lunch.
During peak times, whole-week bookings for this property are Friday - Friday.
Access and Entrance
Access to the cottage garden is from Bay Bank, close to The Old Drapery Shop. There are 5 stone steps up through a stone gateway onto the level patio followed by a 10 metre path to the front door. Please be aware that the flagstones can become slippy in wet weather.Ground Floor
The front door leads into an entrance hallway and a fully-equipped galley kitchen comprising fridge-freezer, washing machine, ceramic 4-ring hob, electric fan oven, mini drinks fridge, microwave (700W), large sink and drainer. There is a pine dresser at the rear of the kitchen and the floor is stone tiled. The lounge is small and cosy and has a fold-down dining table and a fireplace with an electric stove-effect fire. The Chesterfield sofa provides the comfort for cosy nights in watching the TV or a video and there is a good selection of books and games if you prefer a quieter night.Basement
From the hallway, a door leads to a staircase down to the basement bedroom which comprises a 3/4 bed, free-standing clothes rail, chest of drawers and a beamed ceiling. The 2 understorey windows allow sufficient light into the room and a feature fireplace (non-working) completes the look.First Floor
The steep steps up to the first floor bring you to the master bedroom in which a queen size wooden sleigh bed takes centre stage and from which you can enjoy lovely views of the pantiled rooftops in the village. The large picture window in this room looks out onto the garden and lets the light flood in. There is also a chest of drawers for storage, a small bedside table, and a small occasional chair. Also on this floor is a spacious and very charming bathroom with black & white tiled floor, a delightful free-standing roll-top bath, separate shower cubicle, WC and wash basin. Please note: that there is only a very small landing between the master bedroom and the bathroom but a pull-down platform and a clip-on rope can be utilised at night to make those necessary bathroom visits easier to negotiate!Second Floor
A door from the master bedroom leads up the steep stairs to the pretty attic bedroom, having 2 full-width single beds with spotlights, a small chest of drawers, a small occasional chair and a bedside table. Please note that access to the attic bedroom is through the master bedroom.Outside
Outside, there is a lovely garden which is particularly spacious for Robin Hood's Bay. It comprises a gravelled pot garden with wooden bench, low level table and chairs, mature shrubs and a paved patio with table and chairs. The garden is enclosed by a small picket gate which leads out onto New Road. It's worth noting that there are very few cottages in the lower village that have any outside space at all and this makes the garden at Cockpit Cottage all the more sought after.General
Cockpit Cottage is one of our more popular properties but please bear in mind that the staircases are steep (even by Bay standards) and so may not be suitable for everyone. Nevertheless, the cottage has a quirky and quaint demeanour and a bright and vivacious retro-style decor.Summary
- The cottage is heated by modern electric heaters.
- Bed linen and towels are provided.
- Cockpit Cottage will accept 2 well-behaved dogs (by negotiation) but please note that dogs must be strictly confined to the ground floor.

- There is a parking permit for 1 car in the upper council car parks (note - NOT for Fisherhead car park). During busy periods, parking cannot be gaurenteed.
- WiFi is available at this property.
- There is limited head height in the attic bedroom.
- Cockpit Cottage has steep staircases that require care, especially when descending them. It is therefore unsuitable for young children and elderly and infirm people.
