This delightful Grade II listed fisherman’s cottage dates back 350 years and is tucked away in a quiet little yard off the ever-popular Chapel Street. Just 150 metres from the beach and close to the restaurants, cafes and shops, Millbrook is a comfortable and beautifully-maintained property that is perfectly set up for a memorable holiday in the Bay.

Access

For unloading purposes, you can park temporarily at the top of King Street for a short period (although you are advised not to leave the car unattended for more than 5 minutes at a time). Alternatively, you can unload from the area around King’s Beck and walk along Chapel Street to the far end. Access into the cottage is directly from Chapel Street, down a short alley and straight into the front door.

Ground Floor

The front door leads into a short hallway with hanging space for coats. A further door leads into the cosy sitting room and dining area with a comfortable 2-seater sofa and 2 upholstered fireside chairs. Unusually, this room has two large windows which overlook a pretty open courtyard and which flood the room with morning light, making for a bright and airy feel. The open fire is the focal point of the room and as well as a Smart TV, DVD player, music system and WiFi, there is also an extensive selection of books, local guides, jigsaws and board games to help you while away a cosy evening or plan tomorrow's itinerary. To the rear of the sitting room is an oak sideboard and a drop-leaf dining table and here you will find a thoughtfully-chosen basket of welcome provisions including. evening treats and breakfast items for your first morning in the cottage. Just off the lounge is a tiny but brilliantly-planned kitchen. Making excellent use of space, it has all that you could need for informal meals including an integrated electric oven, 2-ring induction hob, a half-size dishwasher, 800w microwave, under-counter fridge, stainless steel sink with drainer, a kettle, 2-slice toaster and a cafetière. The kitchen comes fully equipped with crockery, cutlery and cookware. In addition, there is a storage pantry cupboard just off the lounge with plenty of space for your own provisions and a further cupboard containing a small freezer, iron, ironing board and beach items. It's safe to say that the owners have thought of everything! Theres even a handy washer/dryer in the outhouse along with coal and logs for the fire.

First Floor

A door from the lounge leads to a typically narrow and winding staircase which takes you up to the first floor landing. From here, you can access the master bedroom which is spacious and airy and which, like the lounge, has dual sash windows overlooking the courtyard and the pantiled rooftops beyond. Facing the windows is a king size metal-frame bed with an oak chest of drawers to one side and a bedside table to the other. The ornamental fireplace and original built-in cupboards all add up to give this room a very cosy and welcoming feel. Also on the first floor is the main bathroom decorated with brick tiles in shades of blue and including a bath with a shower over, washbasin and mirror, shaver point, WC, and radiator.

Second Floor

A door from the first-floor landing takes you up to a further winding staircase to the second bedroom. Towards the top, the little window there provides a different view of the village below. This bedroom features a lovely white wood double bed with bedside tables sand a chest of drawers. Being set in the attic eaves, this room is characterful but has low beams and limited headroom in parts of the room. The small window to the rear boasts lovely views out over the rooftops to the beach, village and the moors. The finishing touch to this charming room is the half - en suite comprising a washbasin, shaver point and WC for those all-important night visits!

Outside

There are precious few cottages in the old Bay village that have any private outside space. Luckily, Millbrook is one of them. Just a few yards from the front door and down a number of stone steps is a small terrace with a bistro table and four chairs overlooking New Road. Here is the perfect place for an early morning coffee, a sundowner or simply a quiet place for watching the hustle and bustle below. Here you’ll also find the coal and log store in a converted outdoor privy for unlimited fuel for the open fire in the lounge plus a further outbuilding containing a washer/dryer and beach equipment.

General

Most of the old Bay fishermen’s cottages in lower Bay are small but packed with charm and Millbrook is no exception. The owners have provided everything to make your stay a memorable one and there are numerous thoughtful touches that will add to your Bay experience. The endearing ornaments and charming pictures and photos pay homage to the owner's own childhood memories in this captivating little village.

Reviews

  • We chose Millbrook because it was well located, cosy with an open fire and seemed to offer the combination of charm and convenience that we were after - it didn’t disappoint. It proved to be the perfect ‘home’ for our first long weekend in RHB, it certainly won’t be our last and we hope to stay at Millbrook on our next visit.

  • A fantastic property in the heart of Robin Hoods Bay. Always a relaxing stay.

  • We stayed at Millbrook Cottage for a long weekend after a tough few months. It was in a perfect location, nice and peaceful but only a short walk to the pub and restaurant. Just what we needed to help us unwind. The welcome pack was wonderful. Thank you for a great time.

  • It was our second visit. The cottage is well equipped and it’s clear a lot of thought has gone into the layout of the cottage. It’s really comfortable and cosy. Ideal for a winter break.
